The 2005 Rally was hot and went well with a Demonstration of McMichael Radios by Harry G3NGX which attracted a good number of people who still had one at home or had one in the past. The MMRally saw the unusual event of a dust devil strike and wipe up light goods from table and destroying the gazeboes of several exhibitors, even knocking one of the McMichael Radios to the ground. Luckily no serious damage was done and only a few sunshades got tuned inside out. This all happened during the Rally Prize giving and it proved to be a shock to us all. The attendance was slightly down due to the hot weather but many of the special interest groups attended again with news ones enjoying their first time at MMR. Due to the heat the barbeque was cancelled due to the catering staff getting burnt (truly Barbequed on the outside) but all had plenty to eat and drink.
A new event for 2005 was the HF station ran by Nick 2E1LOK under the supervision of Dave Honey M0DHO which attracted interest and gave Nick experience in project managing his station MX0EEE using the club call sign and made contacts on 20 & 40 M Bands.
Denis G4KWT did his splendid job of supplying and setting up the "Talk in Station" for the rally and all the helps that sat in and gave the few lost travellers directions.
Graham G3XYX setup the great sound system for the fields and internal rooms for all and I enjoyed being his apprentice for the day even if it was doing the fetching and carrying for him, but it went smoothly and really helped to get the prize draw people in when the time was due.
We had many helpers again this who are always needed to get the event put together speedily and smoothly. Their help just in setting up or on the club table selling items or just clearing up or packing away at the end is great and everybody contributed to the club funds with their support.
Harry G3NGX is looking to increase the
interest for McMichael Radio Owners as Harry met enough ex-employees and owners
last year to make it seem a good idea. Generally, hams now have forgotten the
critical part played by Leslie McMichael in our hobby, by experimentation and in
founding the RSGB in 1913.
At one time, there was a McMichael museum, but now most sets are in the hands of
private collectors. It would be interesting to know just how many survive into
the 21st Century. One person is collecting serial numbers to help in
establishing survival rate.
We hope to update this patch, as owners notify information. If it helps,
anonymity can be given to published data.

There has been a brilliant success for all our courses thanks to Simon G6ZTZ for supplying the venue and helping with some of his candidates.
They will all benefit from a free FREE membership to RADARC.
The next course for the Amateur Radio Foundation Licence is planned to start in 2006.
This follows the 100% overall success rate of all of the courses.
Several new M3 callsigns are regularly heard on the air, with good standards of operating.
If your friends and/or family would like to get involved, very little prior knowledge is required, just the interest and the will to give it a go.
Cost is likely to be Ł25 (approx), to include exam fee, refreshments and Course Booklet.
Fill in the reply form on this website.
